Heart Health: Tips for a Stronger Heart & Vitality
Key dietary modifications, BP monitoring protocols, and warning symptoms that require immediate cardiology consultation in Sonari.

Why heart health needs earlier attention in Jamshedpur
Coronary artery disease presents almost a decade earlier in Indian patients than in western populations. In our Sonari cath lab we routinely see first heart attacks in patients in their early forties, often with no prior cardiac diagnosis.
The reasons are familiar - sedentary work patterns, high refined-carbohydrate intake, undiagnosed diabetes, tobacco use, and blood pressure that has never been measured outside a hospital visit. Every one of those is modifiable.
Dietary modifications that actually move the needle
Small, sustained changes outperform short bursts of restriction. Aim for consistency rather than perfection.
- Replace refined oil re-use with fresh cooking medium; limit total added fat to roughly three teaspoons per person per day.
- Build half your plate from vegetables and pulses; keep fried snacks to a weekly rather than a daily habit.
- Reduce salt to under 5g daily - most of it comes from pickles, papad, packaged snacks and restaurant food, not the kitchen shaker.
- Choose whole grains over polished rice at one meal per day if a full switch is unrealistic.
Blood pressure monitoring protocol
If you have been told your blood pressure is borderline, measure it at home twice daily for one week, seated and rested, and bring the log to your consultation. A single clinic reading is rarely enough to start or change therapy.
Readings consistently above 140/90 mmHg warrant evaluation. Above 180/110 mmHg, or with headache, chest discomfort or breathlessness, report to the emergency department immediately.
Warning symptoms that require immediate cardiology review
Do not wait for a scheduled appointment if you experience any of the following. Our 24×7 cath lab in Sonari is equipped for primary angioplasty within the golden hour.
- Central chest heaviness or burning lasting more than a few minutes, especially with sweating or nausea.
- Pain radiating to the left arm, jaw or between the shoulder blades.
- Breathlessness on mild exertion that is new or worsening.
- Unexplained fainting, or palpitations with light-headedness.
